As you know, I often use the daily quotes I get from Abraham-Hicks (www.abraham-hicks.com) as a spring board for these blogs. Today I’m using one from one of my teachers, Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D., founder of The Four Winds Light Body School where I study Shamanism (www.thefourwinds.com). He offers up a ‘Weekly Wisdom’ and this one really spoke to me. It’s also something I’m REALLY trying to work on myself.
“The shaman doesn’t look for meaning in life, but brings meaning to every situation. She stops looking for truth and instead brings truth to every encounter.”
–Alberto Villoldo, Ph.D.
This speaks to me on several levels, but bottom line? We look for our power on the outside instead of the inside, giving it away to people or situations instead of finding the meaning or the truth within ourselves.
Think about it. Something or someone happens in our every day lives and what do we do? We immediately ‘React.’ Most of us spend our whole lives ‘Reacting’ to the things around us as opposed to ‘Responding.’ Say those two words out loud and feel the difference in the energy between them. React. Respond.
Everyday, we allow things and people to create meaning for us, to create the truth for us. But what if we looked in instead of out? What if WE gave the thing or the person the meaning we want to give it? What if we brought OUR truth to the situation instead of looking for the truth IN the situation?
How do we do that you ask? By finding the space in between. That tiny speck of space around someone or something that happens and what we do afterwards. The world around us in nothing but our perception of it. We control what we do after someone or something happens. So the question is, Do you immediately react? Or do you find that speck of space and allow yourself to respond in a way that works for you, in a way that keeps your personal power intact?
Next time something or someone happens…
Find the speck of space.
And feel the difference in that.
