My husband and I have these friends, we’ll call them Mr. & Mrs. X (you know who you are…) We see the Xes most weeks either at dinner or beach/boat time and we always laugh our butts off. About anything and everything. Now Mr. X is one of those guys that really lives the concept of ‘He who dies with the most toys wins.’ Physically and mentally. What I mean by that is, he has fun. He loves life. He doesn’t worry about anything. Whenever we’re discussing something that maybe causes myself or Mrs. X to worry or stress, his response is always something like, “What does it matter in the big picture?! Just get over it! Stop worrying so much!” And he’s totally right. (but sometimes we just like to get him riled…)
So the other day we were talking about health, and doctors, and tests, and the things you’re not supposed to do in order to be a healthy, thriving person. Now Mr. X doesn’t do all those things he’s supposed to do in order to be healthy. In fact, he does the opposite in some cases. Yet…and here’s my point…he is healthy (save for a broken body part every now and again…but that’s another blog).
He’s healthy because he doesn’t believe those things are bad for him.
Abraham has a quote, “If you believe that something is good, and you do it, it benefits you. If you believe something is bad, and you do it, it is a very detrimental experience.” Let’s take food. How many of us try to lose weight by not eating all those things ‘they’ have determined are bad for you? Sugar, dairy, wheat, etc. And each time we just want a little taste we say, “I shouldn’t be eating this. This is sooooo bad for me. I’m going to gain like 5 pounds!” And, of course, we do.
Because we just told the Universe what we wanted.
What if, instead of worrying about all the things that are bad for us, or all the things we shouldn’t be doing because ‘they’ said we shouldn’t be doing them, or all the things we shouldn’t be eating, we just sucked the life juices out of every moment and LIVED!
Nothing is bad for you…unless you think it is.
