Take your button back.

Last week I talked about Projections and about how basically everything you do is one. This is kind of related. So, have you ever met someone who just absolutely, constantly, and with great skill…pushed your buttons? I mean every time you even see that person you can feel the energy shift. You can feel yourself getting ready for whatever is going to come out of his or her mouth, so you yourself can react with a real passive-aggressive zinger. You almost become blind to anyone else around you as you plan your next move. My guess is you know this person. And here’s the thing, you’re probably fairly proud of the fact that you know the kind of person this person is and that you can prepare yourself to react when they push your buttons. You’re the bigger person, so you get that.

But what if I were to tell you that the only reason that person is able to push your button is because you’ve got a really big button out there to push? Here’s the thing…

If you don’t put your button out there, no one will push it.

In other words, it’s our own faults that someone is pushing our buttons.

Let’s face it, there are people out there that need to feel better about themselves by causing discomfort in others. Sad, but true. But that’s their problem. Those are their projections that they’re pushing on you and everyone else. So, what if you just let them put those out there, without reacting to them.

Imagine this. Someone who normally pushes that big old button of yours walks up to you at a party and says something he/she KNOWS will set you off. Just a little passive-aggressive thing. Just for the fun of it, what if, instead of slinging back something equally as passive-aggressive, you said laughingly, “You know? You’re totally right about that! I do do that thing when that other thing happens!” And you laugh some more, pat them on the back and say, “Thanks for THAT lesson! You’re so good at reading people!” And then you turn to the person to your right and start talking to them. Now, put yourself in their shoes after that just happened. Kind of knocks the wind out of your sails, huh? So…

Why not knock the wind out of their sails?

Take your button back.

In Munay…

I'd love to hear from you!
