Find Something Good About It.

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a bit have heard me say, when you’re feeling negative about something, you need to reach for a better feeling thought. So, if you’ve got something stuck in your craw, you need to turn away from it and think and feel your way out of the muck. You need to find something else to think about. But what if that’s not possible? Like what if the thing causing the problem is work and you really can’t just get up and walk away from your job to go to the beach? What if you absolutely can’t stop dealing with what you’re dealing with right now? What if you can’t walk away from it? What then?

Find the positive aspects and start a rampage.

I know, I know, right now you’re saying, “There ARE no positive aspects!” But my guess is there are. You just might have to be creative about it.

See, the thoughts you choose to shift yourself out of the negativity don’t have to be these incredibly profound, deep, intense thoughts. The tiniest thought can help you pivot out of a potential negative spiral and start you heading in the right direction again. So here’s an example (a dramatic one, but I’m trying to make a point):

You’re at work and the energy is just toxic. Your counterpart in your office is taking all the credit for your idea. Your boss is rewarding him/her with tickets to the big game this weekend. (You actually saw your counterpart stick his/her tongue out at you.) Plus, boss man is blaming you for dropping the ball with a client account and you have to work all weekend.

Not much positive to go on, right? But again, those positive aspects don’t need to be huge. You just need to start a rampage…. How about:

Well, I do get overtime. It will be quiet in here all weekend and I can watch the game on my computer. Once I’m done with the work I can use the good printer to print more resumes. I don’t have to dress nice. It’s supposed to rain this weekend anyway. If I didn’t have to work, I’d just be cleaning the house.

Did you feel that little shift there? Did you feel how it cut the toxicity of the whole situation a bit? Now, I know it didn’t make you happy to be working this weekend, but it DID stop the negative spiral. And once you stop that spiral, once you shift, it gets easier and easier to get the rampage going. And once the rampage is going, it gets easier and easier to come up with better and better positive aspects. So, next time you’re wallowing…

Start a rampage.

The Past is the Past. Stay Present.

I talk to client, friends, and family sometimes about things that have gone wrong in the past. Things that happened while they were growing up, traumas they may have suffered, accidents they may have been through…and it’s always clear that these ‘things’—whatever they are—stay with us. Because we bring them with us. We carry them around like badges of honor. When we’re talking we tell others, “Well, the reason I act this way, is because _____ happened to me when I was 5.” We hold on to this stuff. We wave it around. In short…

We use it as a crutch.

When we can blame some element of our personality or behavior on someone or something from our past, we don’t have to be responsible for it. “I’m this way because of that.” And sometimes we go to a therapist, or counselor, or a friend, whomever, to help us change our lives and get over that ‘thing.’ And then what do we do? We talk about it, we dissect it, we explain it, we relive it. Over and over and over again.

Now think about that for a minute. How can you possibly move forward from some trauma, abuse, wrong-doing, etc., if you’re constantly waving the flag of it? It may have happened 5, 10, 20 years ago, but you’re keeping it in your NOW. Remember the Law of Attraction? “That which is like on to itself is drawn.” You get what you focus on.

When you’re thinking of the past your bringing it in to your present.

So, okay, I get that we all have stuff from our past. We’ve all had some bad things happened to us. It’s okay to acknowledge it. It happened! But it’s time to let it go. It’s time to stay present. Ask yourself this…

What does your Now look like?

Then move forward from there.

The Universe Is in Divine Order. Just Let Go Already…

So last week was an exhausting week for me. I was backing up another freelancer for one of my writing clients and the additional work was keeping me tightly wound. Add to that a continual misunderstanding with a friend/co-worker from my other career and the result was me obsessing. As in, lying awake at night trying desperately to control both situations, trying my best to make it work out the way I thought it should. “Why aren’t they getting this? Why are they doing this to me? I’m doing the best I can! I need them to understand! I need ______ to happen!” When what I should have been doing was…

Letting go.

Because what I was reminded of this past weekend…and really, what I find over and over each and every time I do let go…is that the Universe is in fact in divine order and if I get out of the way of it (whatever ‘it’ is), it will all work out. Same as what I’ve been saying about those things you’re trying to manifest. If you get out of the way of it, and stop trying to control the how and when of it coming to you, it will.

You see, because of the contrast of every day life, you know what you do want. Whether you say it out loud or not, Universe/God/Spirit says, ‘Cool, got it.’ And then waits for you to stop resisting it, to start feeling good, to start having those wonderful feeling thoughts, to get out of the way. Once you do, Universe takes the path of least resistance to get it to you. And that path might not be the path you thought it would be. But so what? You got ‘it’ anyway. ‘It’ worked out anyway.

So, this weekend, I took my own advice (eventually…) and kind of just said, “Oh the heck with it. What EVER! I’m exhausted from all this and I’m just done. I’m going to watch some football, have a cocktail, talk to a good friend, laugh with my husband, pet my dogs and just forget about it.” And wouldn’t you know, I got a text, I got a call, I got an email, I got a visit. And I realized (again) the Universe is in divine order. It all worked out the way it was supposed to. Better than I could have made it if I continued to try and wrestle it to the ground.

(And then I thought, “What a gigantic waste of time that was! How could I have been so stupid! I’m such a fool….” Guess we’ll deal with that in another blog…)

So, next time you feel yourself struggling to control some situation, trying to wrestle it to the ground…

Just let go…and see what happens.

How Do You Feel Right Now?

Today I’d like to talk about how you feel again. More importantly, I’d like you to think about how you feel. I get told by followers, friends, and skeptics all the time, “But I AM thinking good thoughts and nothing good is coming to me!” Well, first of all, if you’re focusing on the fact that nothing good is coming to you, you’re not thinking good thoughts now are you? But we kind of already covered that…. For now, I’d like to simplify this whole thing and explain a bit. If you could only remember one thing to make the Law of Attraction really work for you, it would be….

Pay attention to how you FEEL.

Okay, so your ‘Source/Inner Being’….you may call it your Higher Power, God, Universe, whatever….is constantly with you, constantly feeling awesome, and constantly bringing good things to you. If you’re not experiencing those good feelings, or receiving those good things, it just means that you’re not in alignment with your Inner Being. The way you know that you’re in alignment with your Inner Being is by paying attention to how you feel. Remember several weeks ago, the blog about the emotional scale? That’s what I’m talking about. If your Source is always feeling good, and you’re feeling bad, that means the two of you are not in sync. Well, Source is never going to come down to your level and feel bad, so you have to start feeling good to sync up. And, like I talked about in that previous post, you don’t have to feel good about something that is making you feel bad. You just have to feel good.

Whenever you’re thinking negative things and therefore feeling bad, ask yourself this, “What is it that would make me feel good right now?” And then get yourself in the feeling place of THAT. In other words,

Sync up.
